jdefayette@ticonderogak12.orgCourse Description and Expectations: Earth Science explores the sciences of meteorology, astronomy, and geology. The course provides an overview of Earth’s processes and introduces/develops problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Students will be required to perform laboratory work to satisfy the New York State laboratory requirement. The New York State Regents exam will be the final exam for the course.
How Grades are Calculated: Homework is worth 30%, Labs 20%, and Tests 50%.
Mid-year/Final exam: This is no mid-term exam for this course, however the final test in the second marking period will cover the topics covered so far. The final exam is the Regents.
Late Work: Late work is accepted for full credit, however if a student wastes class time the privilege to turn in late work for full credit will be revoked.
Test Make-up Policy: If a student is legitimately absent on the day of a test they may take the test upon returning, but not take a re-test.
Extra Credit: Only given if the student requests it and all other work is completed.
Homework Policy: I will give only meaningful assignments, which are due the following day unless otherwise stated. Most homework assignments will be done in class.
Grade Updates on Powerschool: Grades are usually current up to three days.
Lab Policy: New York State requires that ALL labs must be completed BEFORE the performance exam for the Regents. Students will receive incompletes if they are missing one or more labs at the end of each marking period. All labs must be submitted with a cover sheet. The student for their records should keep the returned cover sheet.
Performance Exam: There will be a lab performance exam given before the regents. The score on the performance exam will count towards the total score for the regents.
