Geometry A
Occupational MathCourse Description and Expectations: The purpose of the course in Geometry is two fold: (1) Prepare students for the New York State Math A Regents examination; and, (2) Prepare students for topics required in Algebra II. Topics include probability, statistics, geometric constructions, properties of triangles, advanced trigonometry, transformations, the quadratic formula, and algebraic functions.
Grading Policy:
Quizzes: 10 quizzes each marking period, 10 points each
Homework: Given every day, 3 points each day
Tests: Announced. 100 points each, 3-4 each marking period
Exams: Cumulative in scope, 200 points
Term grade is quotient of points obtained divided by points possible.
Midterm/Final Exam:
There is no midterm for this class. The final exam will be the Math A Regents Exam given in June. A student’s final grade will be calculated by averaging each quarter grade with the final exam grade.
Late Work:
Work will be accepted late given the following conditions:
1. All homework must be turned in. A student can be expected to stay 10th period if they are missing homework assignments. Any late homework will be worth 1 point.
2. Tests and quizzes may be corrected for half of points missed.
Test Make-ups:
1. Students are responsible for any work they miss while they are absent, therefore tests will be expected to be completed upon that students return to school.
Homework Policy:
1. Homework is given everyday.
2. Homework is checked everyday (3 points each assignment)
Grading Timeframe:
Grades can be expected to be updated every weekend, except in extenuating circumstances. In such cases, grades will be made available shortly after the week begins.
