Course Description and Expectations : French II focuses on intermediate skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, with increased concentration on vocabulary. This course is designed for the student who has successfully completed French I and is essential for all college bound students and for students continuing in education or military service beyond the high school level. French III builds on these skills with increased study on verb tenses in order to prepare for the Regents exam given at the end of this year. French IV is an advanced course that studies advanced grammar and verb tenses that would be studied at the college level. It also includes topics such as French Regions, Cuisine, movies and Francophone topics. French V is also an advanced course with emphasis on reading literary novels. All courses include the exploration of French culture and daily living found in the French speaking (Francophone) world.Grading Policy:
-Grades are based on 5 criteria: Tests, Quizzes, Homework, Classwork & Participation.
-Tests are weighted = 40%. If you miss a Test, you will make it up the next class day.
Chapter tests every 4-5 weeks.
-Quizzes are weighted = 20%. Make-up quizzes are not given. Weekly quizzes are given.
-Homework and Classwork are weighted 20%. Homework is due at the beginning of each period and is worth 10 pts. (1/2 done = 5 pts and none done = 0 pts.) Make-up work is = 5 pts. If absent, you have 5 days to get the work done without losing any points.
-Participation is weighted 20%. Daily class participation is noted using a scale of 0-4:
4=excellent (100%), 3=good (85%), 2=fair (70%), 1=poor (50%) and 0=no participation.
Participation points will be given out 2 times per quarter. Points can be made up when absent.

Course Description and Expectations : French 3 works to develop advanced proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing at an in-depth level. High emphasis is placed upon mastery of grammatical structure, vocabulary building, and interactive communication in speaking and listening. French cultural exploration includes the introduction of French art, literature, and music. The Regents exam is taken upon completion of this course. French 3 is essential for all college bound students.
Grading Policy: The points system is used in this class; 5 points for each homework, 10-30 points per quiz, 40-100 points per Exam and varying point for class participation, projects and attendance. The total number of points is changed into a percentage.Homework Policy: Meaningful homework will be assigned mostly on a daily basis. Reading is done in class and as homework; there is no summer reading list.
French 4/FRE221
Course Description and Expectations : French 4 introduces French literature, poetry, art, theatre, cinema, francophone cultures, grammar and contemporary music. Mastery of complex structures and topical vocabulary is essential. More advanced writing assignments will be used to increase student’s comprehension and competency. This course is designed to allow a smooth transition into college level French. This course has the option to receive four college credits from SUNY Albany for $120.00 upon its’ successful completion. The majority of the class will be held in French. This course could satisfy part of your college foreign language requirement. There is no AP Exam for this course!

Course Description and Expectations : French 5 continues with French literature, poetry, art, theatre, cinema, francophone cultures, grammar and contemporary music. Mastery of complex structures and topical vocabulary is essential. More advanced writing assignments will be used to increase student’s comprehension and competency. This course is designed to allow a smooth transition into college level French as well as satisfy the requirement of most colleges for foreign language. This course has the option to receive four college credits from SUNY Albany for $120.00 upon its’ successful completion. This class will be held in French.
