Economics
Course Description: A half-year course dealing with how society allocates its scarce resources
among its unlimited wants and needs
Areas of Study:

• Introduction to Economics
• Microeconomics
• Macroeconomics
• International Economics

Grading System: I use a total points system. Each assignment will have a point value, and the final grade will be calculated by dividing points earned by total possible points. Point values are generally as follows:
• Homework and Classwork 10-20 points
• Tests 100 points
• Participation 200 points

Course Final Grade:
• Quarter 3: 45% of grade
• Quarter 4: 45% of grade
• Final Exam: 10% of grade

Homework Policy: All homework is due at the beginning of class. Late assignments will be accepted for up to half credit if they are turned in within one day. All late work will be recorded as a zero after one day. If students are absent, they have one extra day to hand in homework unless other arrangements are made. There may be extra credit assignments given in class from time to time, but extra credit assignments will not be created for students trying to raise their grades.

Grades in the Computer: Grades will generally be updated at least once weekly.


Participation in Government (PIG)
The goal of this class is to prepare students for their role as active American citizens. Their studies will include the following:
• the meaning of citizenship
• rights and responsibilities of citizens
• workings of national, state and local government
• elections, political parties and voting
• law and the court system
• the significance of historical documents

Students have the opportunity to earn 3 credits at North Country Community College by successfully completing this course. The cost is $50, and a registration form must be completed. Students who do not wish to earn the college credit may remain in the class and just receive the local credit.
