At its June, 2005 meeting, the New York State Board of Regents authorized the gradual phase-in of 65 as the passing score for Regents exams. The transition would be phased in over the next four years, beginning with students who enter ninth grade in September 2005. In addition, an appeals process was approved.

Requirements for General Education Students

2005 Score 65 or above on two required Regents exams and score 55 or above on three required Regents exams. Score 65 or above on five required Regents exams. Score 65 or above on eight required Regents exams.
2006 Score 65 or above on three required Regents exams and score 55 or above on two required Regents exams. Score 65 or above on five required Regents exams. Score 65 or above on eight required Regents exams.
2007 Score 65 or above on four required Regents exams and score 55 or above on one required Regents exam. Score 65 or above on five required Regents exams. Score 65 or above on eight required Regents exams.
2008 No longer available. Score 65 or above on five required Regents exams. Score 65 or above on eight required Regents exams.

REQUIRED REGENTS EXAMINATIONS:
English Language Arts (ELA), Math A, Global History & Geography, US History, Living Environment.

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS, ALL STUDENTS MUST EARN A MINIMUM OF 22 CREDITS, including keyboarding, IN ORDER TO GRADUATE.

PLEASE NOTE: Students with disabilities who enter ninth grade through September, 2009 can continue to earn a Local Diploma by: 1) Passing the Regents Competency Tests instead of Regents exams or 2) Score between 55 and 64 on the five required Regents exams.

*Diploma Options:

Local Diploma (Available to all regular education students who enter Ninth Grade through September, 2007, and to all special education students who enter Ninth Grade through September, 2009, and who score between 55 and 64 on the five Regents examinations required for graduation. A Local Diploma is also awarded to special education students who have taken Regents examinations, scored below 55 on them, and have then taken and passed the Regents Competency Test in that academic area.)

Regents Diploma (Students who entered Ninth Grade in September, 2001 and thereafter need to take and pass five Regents examinations with a score of 65 or better.)

Regents Diploma with Honors
(Students earn the "with Honors" distinction by fulfilling the requirements for a Regents Diploma, and averaging 90 or better on all of the Regents exams they take.)

Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors
(Students earn the "with Honors" distinction by fulfilling the requirements for an Advanced Regents Diploma, and averaging 90 or better on all of the Regents examinations they take.)

Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Diploma
(Available only to special education students. The student must successfully complete all of the requirements of his/her Individualized Education Plan, as set forth in advance by the Committee on Special Education.)

Career & Technical Education (CTE)
Designation (Available to students who have successfully completed a State Education Department certified technical program, and who have passed a technical evaluation test. CTE designation is added to whichever diploma a student earns.)
