Clubs/Activities Information

Art Club Ms. Marsha LaPointe, Advisor

Art Club is a club designed to integrate the arts. The focus is to provide activities that involve the visual and performing arts, such as attending plays, concerts, and museums outside of Ticonderoga. Fund-raising events also become activities such as Friday Night Art (open studio) and dances. The money raised is used to supplement the trips as well as used for the Permanent Art Collection.

Drama Club Mrs. Crannell, Director

Drama Club is open to anyone in the high school. The Club puts on one play a year. Anyone can try out for a part in the play. There are also roles back stage that need to be filled. The cast is subject to change only if they do not make every effort to attend rehearsals and/or fail to memorize lines. Understudies are encouraged to attend practice whenever they can and plan to serve as prompters during the actual performance.

French Club Ms. Perry/Mrs. Perkins, Advisor

French Club is open to any student who takes French as well as to others who are interested in joining our activities. During the course of the school year the club members meet for fundraiser's. On Valentine's Day the club sells heart grams to raise money for the fall trip to Montreal.

FCCL/HERO Ms. Kim Powers, Advisor

FCCL/HERO (Future Career & Community Leaders/Home Ec. Related Occupations) is a Home Ec. club at Ticonderoga High School. In this club students learn leadership skills by becoming involved in career awareness, family, children, food and nutrition, housing and design, and clothing and textile projects. Students have the opportunity to go on field trips out of town related to the goal of the club. In the past we have become involved working with the elderly at the Ticonderoga Nursing Home.

Key Club Mr. Dave Millard, Advisor

Key Club is a service organization dedicated to improving the school and community. The club throughout the year raises funds to support charities and undertakes service projects. The club is open to any high school students in all grades. Key Club is sponsored by the Ticonderoga Kiwanis Club and is part of a state, nation-wide, and international network of Key Clubs. The Ticonderoga Key Club was established in 1972. This club is a great addition to any college application.

National Honor Society Ms. Deborah Breitenbach, Advisor

Selection for the Black Watch Chapter of the National Honor Society is an honor given annually to students who demonstrate the scholastic, service, leadership and character requirements of the chapter. The complete process by which Ticonderoga High School selects its new members is available in the high school office.

To be eligible for consideration, a student must

· achieve a cumulative average which equals or exceeds 88.00.
· be a full time student

All eligible students will then be asked to submit a STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET and short essay in order to give the FACULTY COUNCIL information on service, leadership, and character for their use in the selection process.

The principal will convene a FACULTY COUNCIL to select students for the honor of induction into the Black Watch Chapter of National Honor Society. The Faculty Council will evaluate the characteristics of service, leadership and character and by majority vote will determine selection. Interviews with candidates may be required in the selection process.

The Principal and Advisor will announce new candidates and induct them as part of the spring Academic Awards Night at Ticonderoga High School.

Natural Helpers Ms. Hillary Brewer, Advisor

Natural Helpers is a peer helper program. To become a member of this organization, you must be chosen by your friends and faculty. Once a student is chosen, he/she receives training on how to help others effectively. Training is held during a weekend retreat. A Rap (educational workshop) group is held once a month to brush up on skills, and talk about any pressing issues. Natural Helpers also participate in the new student luncheon, freshmen orientation, parent and student workshops, and serve as all-around peer helpers in the high school.

Night Shadows Mr. Nelson Shapiro, Advisor

The Night Shadows show choir began in 1989 to meet the needs of high school male vocalists who wished to form a select performing organization comparable to the Spirit of Sound show choir. This ensemble performs at the Pops and spring concerts and also has performed at the Art Potter Music Scholarship shows. Night Shadows is expanding its musical repertoire and plans to become more active in the school and community. The guys also surprise the female staff members by singing them "Happy Birthday" when there is a birthday during the school week.

Quiz Bowl Ms. Deborah Breitenbach, Advisor

Ticonderoga High School's Academic Bowl Team, a group of students from grades 9 through 12, compete monthly in the Post Star Academic Bowl held at Queensbury High School and Adirondack Community College. Ticonderoga's students compete in teams of four players through three rounds of play in each match answering questions on current events, geography, art, literature, music, science, mathematics and history. The Post Star competition includes schools from the Albany, Saratoga, and North Country area. The top two schools at the end of the year long competition attend the National Academic Bowl Competition in May.

Spanish Club Ms. Lynn Lenhart, Advisor

Being a member of the Spanish Club offers involvement in three areas: fund raising, exploration of Hispanic culture, and social activities. Some of Spanish Club's past activities include: a piñata breaking contest on class competition day, a field trip to Troy, NY to see Spanish Flamenco dancers, candy and flower sales, foreign language week games and trivia competitions, end of year party, and trip to LaRonde amusement park, visiting Mexican restaurants to taste different foods, and viewing foreign films and videos. All students enrolled in Spanish courses are welcomed and encouraged to join. It is fun and informative.

Spirit of Sound Mr. Nelson Shapiro, Advisor

The Spirit of Sound show choir is comprised of female singers selected through auditions from the high school chorus. The ensemble meets after school twice a week throughout the school year. Additional evening or Saturday rehearsals may be added in accordance with the demands of their performance schedule. Spirit of Sound performs a diverse repertoire ranging from sixteenth century madrigals to contemporary pop and jazz music. The show choir serves as goodwill ambassadors for the high school, performing for many community and civic organizations

Student Council Mr. John Dreimiller, Advisor

Student Council is the student government in the high school. Representatives and officers are elected into student council by their peers in the fall of each year. Anyone with an interest in leadership of the school and has ideas about how the school can be improved, is encouraged to join.

Yearbook Ms. Maria Bagneshi / Mr. Millard, Advisor

Yearbook is an extra-curricular activity. All students in grades 9-12 interested on working on the yearbook are encouraged to join. Yearbooks go on sale in late October/early November. Students should listen to the announcements and check Ti T.V. for dates and prices.

Youth and Government Mr. Jay Wells, Advisor

Youth and Government is a program designed to introduce the student to the New York State Governmental Process. The student has the option of choosing from a variety of roles: legislator, lawyer, lobbyist, etc... If you are really ambitious, the position of Governor, Lieutenant Governor or Chief Justice are also open for election. As members of the Ticonderoga delegation, you will first travel to Silver Bay for the District Three Conference. Here you will present your legislation (bills) to a committee for debate and revisions. After the district conference, it is on to Albany for the State Conference. This includes a weekend of spirited debate against members from other districts in New York State. This program builds leadership, public speaking and organizational skills... and looks great on a high school transcript.

Outing Club Mr. Shaw, Advisor

The Outing Club is a club for people who like the outdoors. In the outing club kids get to go rafting, snow shoeing, skiing, climbing, hiking, etc…. It’s fun for the people who enjoy outside activities. The Outing Club is a club full of adventures in the great outdoors.
