End of Year Letter to Parents & Guardians

Dear Parent/Guardian:

 

With the end of the academic year approaching, we want to inform you about the schedule for the closing days of school and let you know about some updates to look for in the near future.

We appreciate everything that you are doing to help students continue learning. Although our buildings are closed, we are very much here to help in any way as the school year winds down.

 

Last days of school for 2019-2020:

 

Because remote learning continued through the previously scheduled April recess, the school year will end earlier than initially planned. Here is the schedule:

  • Friday, June 5: Last day of new instruction.
  • Week of June 8-12: Time for Google Meets with classes for feedback, revision, resubmissions, wrap-up.
  • Monday(6/15) and Tuesday(6/16), Material drop off and last days of school.

 

School material drop-off:

 

We have a plan for students/families to drop off school items (library books, textbooks, school calculators, musical instruments, Chromebooks borrowed during school closure, etc.) while maintaining current social distancing protocols.

Procedures and Protocols to follow:

  • Stay Home if you or someone in your household has tested positive for, or has symptoms of, COVID-19 and/or is feeling unwell.
  • Please follow the directions of the school staff and park or pull up in the parent drop off circle in the Elementary-Middle School parking lot.
  • Please wear a mask.
  • A staff member will ask you for your child’s(ren) name.
  • We ask that you return library books, textbooks, school calculators, musical instruments, Chromebooks with power adapters and other classroom materials you may have at this time.

 

In the event that you are unable to come during the time designated for your family, please call the Main Office (518-585-7400 ext. 2210) to make alternate arrangements. ?In the interest of time and to have this go as smoothly as possible, anything you can do to keep your original appointment would be greatly appreciated.

 

Drop Off Dates and Times for all students:

 

Monday, June 15th or Tuesday June 16th

Elementary-Middle School Parking Lot

Time: 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

 

Food Pantry Drive-thru: 

 

Through the generosity of the Kiwanis, there will be a pop-up, drive-thru food pantry in the Ticonderoga Elementary - Middle School parking lot on Wednesday, June 17th.  Free food will be available starting at 12:00 noon. The food pick-up will be in the school bus drop-off area and will be loaded directly into trunks by volunteers. Please enter through the front entrance driveway to the school off of Alexandria Avenue. 

 

Graduation 2020:

 

We recognize Covid-19 has severely impacted all of our lives. Our students are living through unprecedented changes. The Governor’s executive orders have required schools to adjust their traditional ceremonies to reflect these new regulations.

 

The District formed a committee who developed plans for a wide range of different type celebrations. After weeks of work, the committee, with the help of our local health agencies, developed a plan that meets the Governor’s Executive Orders and celebrates this great group of students. 

 

The committee developed a plan for a hybrid drive-thru graduation with a parade from the Ticonderoga Elementary School Parking lot to the High School front lawn to receive their diploma. We wanted our students to start the parade where most of them started their education. They will hear an introduction from myself, then hear speeches from the Valedictorian, Tori Lobdell and Salutatorian, Vivian Porter.   Students will be led by the Ticonderoga Police Department to the High School to individually receive their diplomas on stage in the front lawn of the High School. Students will have their picture taken by a photographer and provided that picture at a later date. In addition to the picture, students will also receive a thumb drive with a digital copy of the picture and a copy of a tribute to the Class of 2020. This tribute will include photos, speeches and other great memories.

 

In order for this plan to meet safety guidelines, we will need to limit graduates to one car containing themselves and their “Quarateam”. These are the people the graduates live with and can be in close social contact. Friends and family members who wish to celebrate our Seniors are encouraged to cheer on the parade from the sidewalk down Alexandria Avenue and Lake George Avenue to the High School. Thank you for all your support this school year! Although this is not the way anyone would choose to end the year, we take great comfort in knowing that one day we will be back at school with our students.
