Dear Parents and Guardians:
We at Ticonderoga Elementary & Middle School are not only responsible for providing a quality education; we are also responsible for providing a safe environment, even in the face of immediate danger. Our building has developed a plan to utilize in case of an emergency situation. The plan was presented to our local and state law enforcement and has been formalized into a procedure in accordance with state guidelines. Our goal is to correctly implement these procedures in order to protect the students, save lives, and reduce injury. To help us with this goal each year, we will re-evaluate our plan with local law enforcement and conduct campus safety drills.
On Friday, January 18, 2019 our building will practice our “Lockdown Drill.” Prior to the day of the drill, and on the morning of the drill, your child’s teacher will explain to our students what the procedure will be and why we will be practicing it. The staff will explain that this type of drill will be used in the unlikely event that there might be something unsafe within the building. Once the actual drill begins, our staff will lead the students through the designated procedures to ensure that our students reach the securable locations in our building. The procedures include designated staff to complete a procedural checklist that would be used in an actual emergency situation. The entire “Lockdown Drill” should last approximately 20 minutes.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
